Vixen Pin-Up Photography FAQs

For a lot of the women who walk through our door, this is the first time they’ve ever done a photo shoot — let alone a pin up girl photo shoot! No worries, we’ll turn you into a pin up pro in no time. Check out the common questions asked by our clients so you can focus on the fun of your pin up photo session!

Q: How do I book a session for my pin up debut?

A: Once you’ve picked your package and looked at our theme options, send an email over to and our staff will work with you to get some basic information and get your appointment scheduled. We’re excited to get started with you!

Q: How far in advance should I book?

A: We are honored to work with women from all over the country who visit us in Kansas City. Because of this, we are typically booked 1-2 months in advance for weekend sessions. If you’re interested in a weekday session, we can usually get you in quicker.

Q: Can I bring my own clothing?

A: Of course! Many of our clients bought a dress or lingerie specifically for their pin up photo session and we’re happy to work with it. We also suggest you bring particular items regardless if you’re using our wardrobe or yours, and we’ll let you know exactly what to bring prior to the shoot.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare for the day of my session?

A: Get yourself picture perfect! Pluck, shave, wax, or tweeze everything you want gone no more than a day prior. Make sure to moisturize your skin! If needed, get your roots touched up and your hair trimmed at least 5 days before your shoot to give your hair time to settle into its style. If you want to paint your nails and/or toes, red, pink or natural colors are great! But more than anything — don’t stress out! You are going to have a blast, we promise.

Q: Can I bring someone with me to my session?

A: Feel free to bring a friend or family member with you to the appointment if it will make you more comfortable — just make sure it’s someone you will feel comfortable posing in front of. We do not allow men or children under the age of 18, so please bring a female friend or family member to accompany you. This is both for the staff and you. If you have questions regarding this, please contact Nikki at

Q: I’m nervous; I don’t have a perfect body and am a little shy. What should I do?

A: Don’t worry; we’ve worked with hundreds of women just like you! Most of our clients have never had a professional photo shoot before and we take great strides to make sure you are comfortable and relaxed at your session before we ever get you in front of the camera. One of the things we’ve heard time and time again is how comfortable we make people; by the end of your session we will be like old friends! We’ve worked with women from ages 12-70, sizes 0-30+, and every ethnicity you can imagine. Relax and know you are in good hands!

Q: I’m not a model and have never had a professional photo taken. I’m afraid I’ll look silly. Will you help me to pose?

A: We will take care of you! All you need to do in the session is make sure you come with a big smile! We will be right there beside you posing you and even doing the poses ourselves to show you how it’s done. We’ve worked with every body type and know what looks good for each body; we will only pose you in ways which will flatter your figure and are comfortable to your physical abilities. It also helps to look up other pin up art to get an idea of poses and facial expressions. You are beautifully unique, and we’ll find what works best for you.

Q: I have some problem areas (scarring/bad teeth/ a bad tattoo or physical flaw) I’d like to disguise in my photos. Can you help?

A: Yes! With the magic of Photoshop, careful posing, and sometimes cosmetics, we are able to work with you to disguise or hide things you may not be fond of. Don’t let your problem areas get in the way of your photo session. We all have them! If you have questions about this, feel free to ask.

Q: Do you use images of clients on your website? What if I don’t want my images seen by anyone else?

A: We do have photos of our clients on our website and fanpage but only a small percent is used in our gallery. Only the images that our clients have approved will be used and a signed release form is always required. We have had everyday gals just like you grace the pages, and sometimes cover, of magazines. If you are OK with your images being used please make sure to let us know. While we can’t promise we will use them, if a great shot comes from your set, we may use it for promotion.

Q: Do you sell Gift Certificates?

A: Yes we do! We sell Gift Certificates for amounts ranging from $50 to the full package price. While we sell Gift Certificates year round, they are redeemable from March – October due to our extremely busy holiday season, which fills up very quickly.

Q: Why should I choose Vixen Pin-Up Photography for my pin up photos? The prices are a little higher than some of the other local studios I’ve seen.

A: We respect and admire all of the other photographers in the area. By choosing Vixen you are choosing us based on over a thousand happy clients and years of experience. We were the very first full scale pin up photo studio of its kind in the Midwest and have been growing since our start in 2007. Our staff has years of experience, been published in countless magazines and have 100+ regular customers who come see us again and again every year, simply because they love working with us. We also have the largest amount of clothing, props and accessories you will find in the Midwest. We are highly respected among our peers for our professionalism and quality. While some studios moonlight doing pin up, this is all we do. We not only love pin up but we live and breathe it. It’s who we are and why we got into this business. We believe this passion and the dedication we’ve poured into our business is the reason we are so successful and consistently remain booked months in advance. But mostly, you are investing in a memory. You are locking in an image of who you are today and these photos will be cherished by many for years to come, maybe even past your own life. That, in and of itself, is worth the investment.

Q: I’m a model and I’m looking to further my portfolio. Do you offer trade work?

A: Unfortunately we do not work for trade. Think of your portfolio as something you want to invest in, and by investing in quality photography you are investing in yourself. By working with a quality photographer you can further your modeling career and create photos you will have for your entire life.
